About GUDA drum MINI Overtone Atomic Flower
This model is designed specifically for travel. It’s easy to take it with you to nature, in a car or plane. MINI Overtone is lightweight and compact. However, it has a very rich and full-bodied sound. The instrument consists from two hemispheres made from 1,5 mm steel. Eight oval-shaped tongues located at the upper hemisphere. The lower hemisphere has no holes and serves as the amplifier of the resonance.
My innovation consists in the method of tuning. Manipulation and forging of the tongue causes very intresting effect – one tongue produces 2 notes instead of one: main tone+overtone, which is commonly tuned +1 octave. This is effect makes sound more volumetric and deep.
To decorate the instrument, I developed a new technology for etching stainless steel. This technique has its own peculiarities: it is very difficult to achieve the same result on different instruments. The same design may be slightly different from the photo, be lighter or darker, and also have a slightly different texture. The composition of the picture and the character of the line remain unchanged!!!
Titanium nitride coating protects the instrument from external influences, resistant to scratches, salt and moisture. Excellent aesthetic characteristics – glossy golden shine!
A well-known use for Titanium nitride (TiN) coating is for edge retention and corrosion resistance on machine tooling, such as drill bits and milling cutters, often improving their lifetime by a factor of three or more.
Because of TiN’s metallic gold color, it is used to coat costume jewelry and automotive trim for decorative purposes. As a coating it is used in aerospace and military applications and to protect the sliding surfaces of suspension forks of bicycles and motorcycles as well as the shock shafts of radio controlled cars. TiN is non-toxic, meets FDA guidelines and has seen use in medical devices such as scalpel blades and orthopedic bone saw blades where sharpness and edge retention are important. TiN coatings have also been used in implanted prostheses (especially hip replacement implants) and other medical implants.
